The kids resurrected their hopes and dreams for a neighborhood gang… so far, they’ve recruited several children and brought in $50 via yard chores and homemade brownies. They’ve asked for vests or hats, and I think we’re going to make it happen for them. Good work, Hancock Crew.
Our sandhill cranes showed up yesterday morning. We’ve been watching the sky for Alex & Alex for days, and they’ve finally returned. Summer is coming.
At one of local breakfast joints the other day, I noticed a familiar senior couple walk in. They recently and tragically lost their son, one of our town’s beloved commercial fishermen. When the server asked the couple how they were doing, the man gave a sad smile and answered, “Oh, so so.” So simple, so vulnerable, so honest. I loved that.
Are they locking? Oh, they’re locking! I haven’t caught them doing that yet. ::raises camera into the air::

Sort of. As part of the mating ritual, eagles will lock talons and then free fall for a bit.
Sounds like our marriage, in a way.
My son gently touched my knee as he stood from his seat this morning, making his way to the stage to lead worship, and my heart melted out of my body and onto the floor.
Today, I slept in. I cleaned and made lists. I ate a pop tart. I laughed with my kids and argued productively with my husband. I answered phone calls about patients, ordering lab tests and asking for advice from a provider much smarter than I. I ran errands by myself and purchased not a thing. I said yes when it was suggested that we have an impromptu family dinner at the local Asian spot. It was a good day.
